Wilsonville High School reprises popular musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” opening February 21st.

Olivia Klugman as Millie, Logan Dart as Jimmy, Rachel Hawkins as Miss Dorothy, and Paxton Crystal as Trevor Graden The Third.
Wilsonville High School first presented “Thoroughly Modern Millie” five years ago, during the 2007-2008 season, and is now bringing it back to life again for the 2012-13 season. When asked why he wanted to bring this particular musical back, theatre department co-chair and director Jason Katz stated that Millie has become one of his favorite musicals and that the 2008 production was one of the best experiences he has had directing at the school in the past eight years.
“Millie is just a great show,” he says “It is fabulously entertaining, hilarious, and fun. The sets are great, the songs are catchy, and there are a plenty of parts for the vast number of talented kids we have at this school.”
In the musical, Millie, a spunky gal from a small town in “the middle of nowhere,” moves to New York City with the dream of becoming a stenographer and marrying her boss. Her rationale is that it is 1922, and she is a “modern” woman and she doesn’t want to become like her small-town mother and grandmother “old and grey at 29.”
After a rude arrival in which she is mugged, she meets a womanizing cad named Jimmy Smith, and the two couldn’t seem to like each other any less. He helps her find shelter, however, at the Hotel Priscilla, a “rooming house for actresses,” where she meets the shady proprietor Mrs. Meers, who secretly operates an illegal “white slavery” business on the side. She also meets Miss Dorothy Brown, a naive rich girl pretending to be poor because she wants to know how “the other half lives.”
“The dancing, the comedy, and the songs make this one of the most unforgettable shows around. I can’t wait for Wilsonville audiences to see it either for the first time, or for the first time in five years.” says Katz
