Wilsonville High School Theatre is pleased to announce that our spring play, Crush by Stephen Gregg, will be shown online three times at the end of May. Department co-chairs Jason Katz and John Fitzgerald have been working with actors and crew online using Zoom to prepare for the online performances. Full details about the performance are forthcoming. In the meantime, meet the cast and crew!

Auditions were held in-person the week before school closures and the first read-through took place online. This is all-new territory for Wilsonville High School Theatre, and we are very excited to be able to proceed with our show in an online format.

Here’s a synopsis of the story: Welcome to Pin Cushion, California: population 791 and falling fast. Pin Cushion High School Drama has reached its final-ever production: Our Town. Despite never having once gotten a part, Bark Melon—16 and delightfully goofy despite some recent hard times—is convinced that he’s going to get a lead. But Bark’s audition goes awry when Aspen, the new student, enters and a chorus of malevolent voices enters with her. Only Bark can hear (and later see) that Aspen is not what she seems, that she’s actually the lead body of a six-bodied alien creature. Soon, strange things start to happen. Giant hearts appear on the billboards leading into town. Mysterious, impossible-to-open envelopes flit through the air and hint at secret admirers. And, one by one, love-struck teenagers fall into inexplicable comas. Not a single person believes Bark when he says that Aspen is responsible for what’s happening—not his father, not his classmates, not Aspen’s head-over-heels boyfriend, not even Chloe, the ferociously competent girl who has declared Bark her boyfriend. Bark’s attempt to stop the aliens himself ends disastrously. He’ll need the help of the entire town because it’s clear that these aliens are only the advance team for a giant ship already heading toward earth—and that their plan to take over the world has something to do with Our TownCrush is hilarious, heartbreaking and full of unforgettable characters. It’s a play about what it means to love someone and what it means to be human.

Additional Accomplishments

Drama Club Treasurer Mikaela Ochocki represented Wilsonville High School as Vice-chair of the Oregon Student Thespian Officers. At Regionals this year she participated in leading two state-wide initiatives: the Feminine Hygiene Drive for women’s shelters and the Minute To Give for California school districts affected by wildfires.

Mikaela lead Thespian Troupe #5452 to bring 10,000 out of 18,000 Feminine Hygiene Products to the State Thespian Drive, making WVHS the winner for the Northeast Region. She also helped organize our region to raise over $450 during the Minute To Give drive, the largest amount raised by any region in the state.

Announcing Our Thespian / Night On Broadway 2019 Participants!

Our Night On Broadway Thespian Showcase will be held two nights only on January 31 & February 1 at 7 pm in the Wilsonville High School Auditorium. The suggested donation is $5. Come support Thespian Troupe #5452 as we present our competitive drama pieces to the public for the first time. Performances include group musical numbers, short acting scenes, and monologues. Hope to see you there!

Throughout January and culminating at these performances, we are accepting donations of feminine hygiene products to bring to the competition for women’s shelters. Please bring new, unopened toilet paper, feminine pads, diapers, diaper wipes, toiletries like toothpaste & deodorant, and nail polish. These items will be delivered to women’s shelters after the competition. Thank you in advance for your support!

WVHS Shines At State Thespian Competition

All of our state qualifiers, who competed this past weekend from back row to front row: Hyrum Worth, Ari Lauthner, Garret Dixon, Noah Hansen, Nate Rasmussen, Peyton Guenther, Sam Duran, Katie Glavey, Peyton Butler, Cormac Lister, Averyl Hartje, Katie Walter, Chance Hansen, Noah Kennedy, and Kameron Koslowski.
Mikaela Ochocki, Board Vice-Chair, State Thespian Officer 2018-2019

We are proud of all of our performers and techs, who participated in Night On Broadway, Regionals, and State! Here’s a few results from our three days in Salem, Oregon for the State Thespian Competition. Mikaela Ochocki (pictured, right) was selected as Vice-Chair to serve as an Oregon State Thespian Officer. Kameron Koslowski and Noah Kennedy were one of the top two Original Pantomime Scenes, so they showcased at the event. Our State Finalists, in the top four competitors out of sixteen at state, were: Peyton Guenther and Nate Rasmussen for their Duet Acting Comic – Experienced scene, Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang & Katie Walter and Averyl Hartje for their Duet Acting Dramatic – Experienced scene Agnes Of God. Our one-act, Post It’s (Notes On A Marriage) by Paul Dooley was directed by Peyton Guenther and received a superior rating.

Big thanks to Jason Katz and John Fitzgerald for all of their late nights and extra hours at school helping students prepare for Night On Broadway, Regionals, and State. We appreciate all the district, parent and community support for theatre education!

The whole State 2018 crew.
